Catching up on the “to read/watch/listen” heap lurking at the bottom of my inbox, I came across a link to an article by Jeff Haden on “The perfect way to introduce yourself (in any setting)“. (This was shared by Kim Dority in the LIS Career Options LinkedIn group back at the end of July – thanks Kim!) I’m delighted that I did finally read it, as the last few sentences really resonated with me:

When you introduce yourself, be who you are. Embrace the moment and the setting for what it says about you in that setting and not in comparison with titles or accomplishments.

Just be yourself: skills and triumphs and struggles and failures and all.

Always trust that who you are is more than enough.

This was supposed to be a quick and timely response to a Wired article I came across on Twitter, entitled The Future of Books Looks a Lot Like Netflix. So, no prizes for guessing which book I’ve been reading recently then. It’s been on my ‘to read’ list for ages, and I finally reached the top of the waiting list for a library copy last week. Naturally the fact that I hadn’t read it didn’t stop me having an opinion about it, and notwithstanding my ignorance I’d even chipped in to a recent twitter discussion about it (beautifully written-up by Jo here), so it’s nice finally to be up to speed on what everyone else is talking about!
