My main takeaway from this panel was that I REALLY want to work in digital humanities! In actual fact I already have an amount of experience on the edges of this area, and I’ve subsequently come up with a plan for gaining more, but if you have any advice for me (or know of any DH projects that could use another volunteer) please let me know in the comments!

Trish Roussel, Amy Buckland and Laurie Allen all did a great job presenting on different DH projects at their various institutions. Common themes included collaborative working, the desire to help others address their curiosity, and the use of special collections as a way to explore wider themes and issues within communities. Key pieces of advice included starting small, not waiting for perfection before going public, and being explicit about the project’s goals.
