Are you, or do you know of, a librarian in the USA currently working towards Chartership? If so Kelly and I would love to hear from you! We’re getting together in New York City on Saturday 13th October at 2pm to talk about the trials and tribulations of Chartership, and the added dimension of doing it all from a distance. If you’re able to join us please do come along, and we’re also interested to know of any others who are working towards Chartership elsewhere in the USA.
One of the things I knew I’d really miss when leaving the UK was my network of library friends and acquaintances. I know they’re all still there, and the time difference is not that significant, but it’s just not the same, and trying to find any kind of motivation to get on with my Chartership when it all seems so far away has been really difficult. Knowing that I can go along to a meeting in real life, and talk to someone else who is having a similar experience has been a real boost, and I’m actually quite excited about getting ready for the final push on my portfolio now.
I had assumed that there aren’t many other Chartership candidates in the USA, but is that actually true? We’d be interested to know, and to explore the possibility of some kind of online network or support group, perhaps along the lines of the twitter #chartership chats which have been proving so useful (I think, anyway!) in the UK. So as well as a great opportunity for the two of us to get together this is also a kind of water-testing exercise, and it will be interesting to see what, if anything, comes of it.
And if you would like to come along on October 13th, we’ll be at Pershing Square, 90 East 42nd St, New York, NY 10017 for coffee and cake from 2pm http://www.pershingsquare.com/
